Small game hunting: prepare to lock and load

There are basic steps to make small game hunting a fun and enjoyable activity. Of course, this activity only becomes fun and enjoyable provided that you know what you are doing, why you are doing it, and just how to go about it.

The following are basic tips to make small game hunting a memorable activity.

Use binoculars the easy way

Hunting is not really hunting without binoculars. When taking them, tie the straps of the binoculars close to
each other making sure that enough space is provided for the straps to fit when you put them over head. This way you make sure that the binoculars go up on your chest where they probably will not swing back and forth. It also makes it easy for you to grab it and conveniently raise it towards your eye level.

Ready, aim, practice, shoot

It is best that any shooting done prior to actually hunting, is first done on a practice range. The targets need not be specialized items or objects. Common plastic jugs (like those used for milk) will do. Fill these jugs with water and place them jugs in an empty field then simply use them for your targets.

Believe it or not, the size of a milk jug is basically the same as the sensitive area of a deer.

Check the ticks

When it is time to go hunting for the first time, do not forget to tuck in the shirt you are wearing inside your own pants. Also, make sure that your pants are tucked inside your boots. More than a fashion statement, this style is to help you avoid being infested with ticks.

For your information, the months between April and September is the season where ticks abound, at least that is how it is in North America.

Wear good shoes

Men as well as women should heed this sound advice. Women who are hunting need to get footwear that is made specifically for women. Women, who buy shoes intentionally made for men, though they are of a smaller size, can actually make their feet hurt more. Men's shoes are made specifically for the contours and shape of the male feet. Women's shoes are made specifically for the contours of women's feet; they have a profile that is a lot narrower and an instep that is higher.

All in all, preparing for small game hunting requires a lot of practice to eventually make the art of hunting a perfect and fun activity.
